Flexible Operation

The well-known topic of flexible power is becoming more and more relevant with new governmental energy policies and goals for 2030 and 2050.
Varying solar and wind conditions require responsive curtail load in the same short timescales as renewable power output.

For gas turbines to play this role, they have to operate on off-design conditions. This means, next to lower power outputs (Part Load), fast ramp rates for
gas fired power plants (CCGT’s and SCGT’s). However, thermodynamic impacts of fast ramp rates affect components and therefore the maintenance costs.

During the project meetings, we want to discuss how the ramp rates can be managed and the affected components lifetime can be extended under these
rapid thermodynamic fluctuations.
